BİM-Building Information Modeling
In order to solve many problems encountered in the construction industry, there is a transition from traditional to a more integrated project management all over the world. The most important innovation to enable this transition is seen as Building Information Modeling (BIM).
BIM is a construction management tool that digitally combines all components in a building and their interrelationships on a 3-dimensional model. BIM enables stakeholders to work collaboratively on the same model throughout the project lifecycle and to eliminate inconsistencies between models.
All stakeholders in the construction industry, from employers to designers, from contractors to suppliers, must first have knowledge of BIM and then take part in BIM applications. In addition, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) initiated the Smart City Project in line with its vision and strategic goals. This vision includes many different topics such as city management, economy, finance, mobility, accessibility, energy and infrastructure management, education, environment, water and waste management, security, health, information technologies. All these are combined in an integrated system with BIM support.
Both the public and private sectors play an important role in the spread of BIM. This book is a pioneering work as a resource to introduce BIM to the Turkish construction industry. In this context, the book describes both the theoretical and practical foundations of BIM and presents examples from current practices in Turkey.
It is a fact that any innovation requires change and is not easy. The transition to BIM will not be easy either. However, perseverance and determination in this regard will be the basis for the success of BIM applications. For this reason, it is expected that senior management in all institutions will be supportive in this regard.
